Summer camp is a rite of passage for children all across the country, and if you are a parent, then you are probably already clamoring to fill your child’s summer docket. Among all of the great options out there, we are quite fond of one in particular. We may be a little biased, though. IMG_8623Rice’s School Literacy and Culture, in coordination with Writers in the Schools (WITS), will host Creative Writing Camp again this summer from June 8-26. The annual camp offers a supportive learning environment for students from kindergarten through 12th grade, engaging young writers in short stories, poetry, essays and plays, as well as simply writing for pleasure. Through these workshops even the most hesitant child discovers the joy in writing, the intrigue of language and the confidence of authorship. With a small teacher-student ratio, Creative Writing Camp ensures students receive individual attention. Workshops end with a final performance or reading, and each participant will take home a personal portfolio or an anthology of camp participant writings on the last day of camp. To serve the greater Houston area, camps are offered at eight different locations, including one right here at Rice.
