This workshop is designed to give new AP English Language and Composition teachers an opportunity to review major units and build curriculum to teach students the skills needed to be successful on the AP exam.
This session will address the breadth of the AP Language and Composition course and focus on developing classroom activity, content, assessment, and organization to enhance students’ understanding of the rhetorical theory and practice that underlie the AP Language and Composition Exam.
Materials will be given on a flash drive. Participants are strongly advised to bring a laptop in order to access materials presented during class.
Phyllis Wright began teaching AP English in 1978 and consulting for the College Board since 1986. She has received the College Board Southwestern Region's Special Recognition Award, as well as having served on Southwest Region's Advisory Board, the AP Literature and Language Test Development Committee, and as a Reader and Table Leader for the AP Language Exam. Honored professionally as a New Mexico State Teacher of the Year, a Golden Apple Fellow, and an International Excellence in Teaching Award recipient, outside the classroom, she is an avid hiker and the Training Director for Mesilla Valley Search and Rescue Team.
