Penny Crofford teaches Honors and Core language and literature to 6th and 7th graders at Monte Cassino School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, after 26 years at Childers Middle School in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, where she taught 6th, 7th, and 8th graders for 26 of the 41 years she has taught. She previously taught junior high English and reading in the Dallas Independent School District. In BA, she was the department chair and ELA/ PLC leader at her school, a member of her district's AP Governing Board, the district's Total Instructional Alignment Team, and was a presenter for professional development. In 2012, she served on the Pre-AP English Curriculum Framework Team, a national College Board committee, and was a reviewer for Advanced Language & Literature, a 10th grade PAP textbook for Bedford St. Martin, which was published in 2015. Ms. Crofford has presented at College Board summer institutes and conferences in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, and New Mexico since 1998 and is also a consultant for the National Math and Science Initiative. She was Childers' Teacher of the Year twice, was the recipient of the KOTV Channel 2 Salute to Education Award and is an AAUW Eleanor Roosevelt Fellow. She holds a BA in English and education from the University of Tulsa.
