This innovative, part-time program will give you the technical skills needed to conduct robust data analytics on a host of real-world problems.
Applicants do not need programming experience to enroll, but once admitted, all students will complete a pre-course tutorial. As the program is part-time, Rice University Data Analytics Boot Camp is designed for working professionals and students who are actively pursuing a career change or advancement, or looking to gain a new skillset.
Throughout the 24-week boot camp, students have access to career-planning services, portfolio review, demo days, and recruiting advice. Graduates will receive a certificate of completion from Rice University’s Susanne M. Glasscock School of Continuing Studies and will have a portfolio of projects demonstrating a working knowledge of data analytics.
Upon completion of the program, participants will have the ability to:
Employ statistical analysis to models, predict and forecast trends
Expertly build VBA scripts in Excel to automate tedious manual processes
Utilize real-world data sources to showcase social, financial and political phenomena
Create Python-based scripts to automate the cleanup, re-structuring and rendering of large, heterogeneous datasets
Analyze social media trends on Twitter and Facebook using automated programs
Use advanced SQL and Mongo techniques to combine multiple datasets into one so as to create even more impressive and comprehensive databases

Ken Kennedy Institute Boot Camps
Leading Data Science faculty serve as instructors for the Data Science Boot Camp at Rice University. The curriculum covers topics ranging from R, Python, Cloud Computing, Unsupervised and Supervised Learning to Deep Learning. Using Rice’s shared computing infrastructure, hands on laboratory sessions supported by the instructor and lab assistants, will be offered each day allowing participants to practice what is being taught in the class sessions.
