The newly updated, SHRM Essentials of Human Resources provides foundational HR Knowledge and incorporates components of the SHRM BoCK. It provides insights into the standards for knowledge, strategies and competencies required of eﬀective HR professionals around the world. Managing any organization requires knowledge of the rules and regulations of human resource management. In this course, gain a broad overview of human resources, learn the foundational knowledge about recruiting, hiring, performance management, compensation and legal impact; understand the behavioral competencies that improve judgment and decision making; and learn practical experience through tools and resources to improve your job performance. Once you successfully complete the course, earn a Rice Certificate of Achievement. No prior HR experience required.
Kathleen M. Fenninger, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, GPHR, - SHRM-CP and Essentials of HR Instructor - has more than 25 years of experience in human resources both as a generalist and an employment specialist, primarily in the energy and financial services industries in Houston and New York City. She has served as president of the Houston Human Resource Management Association and was awarded the Distinguished Professional in Human Resources award in 1998. Ms. Fenninger holds an MBA in organizational behavior and marketing, an M.S. in education and a B.A. in English from Iona College in New Rochelle, New York. She has been an instructor for the Glasscock School of Continuing Studies since 1996.
