Fall AP: AP Calculus AB

Developed for teachers interested in acquiring content and strategies for teaching advanced courses, these seminars will be facilitated by a master teacher and will provide a forum for the exploration and discussion of course content, best practices and instructional strategies.

This course will answer the questions:

+ How do the MPACs from our new curriculum framework impact our instruction?
+ What lessons can be learned from the 2017 exam that will cause adjustments in our curriculum and instruction?
+ How can teachers support students who struggle in AP Calculus while enhancing instruction for the more mathematically capable?

Topics will include the following:

+ Differential Equations
+ Reasoning from Tabular Data
+ Using Multiple Representations for Differentiation and Integration

Lead Consultant

Dixie Ross teaches AP Calculus at Pflugerville High School in Pflugerville, Texas. She has taught in Texas public schools for 33 years and has taught AP Calculus for 28 of those years. She has served as an AP consultant for summer institutes and other teacher professional development workshops since 1994 and has been a reader for the AP Calculus exam. Ms. Ross served on the development committees for the Math Vertical Teams Guide, and the Laying the Foundation project. She received the College Board’s Southwestern Region AP Special Recognition award in 1992, the Siemens Award for Advanced Placement and the Texas Excellence award for outstanding high school teachers. In 2008, Ms. Ross was a finalist for the O’Donnell Texas AP Teacher of the Year award and was recognized as a Math Hero by the Raytheon Company for her efforts to involve more students in advanced mathematics. She received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching in 2012.She is a National Board Certified Teacher and holds a BA and a BS from The University of Texas at Austin.
