Based on the success of our Early Literacy Summit each spring, we are pleased to now offer this fall summit.
This one-day conference will offer sessions that provide both theoretical depth as well as practical applications. The conference is for teachers of toddlers through first grade, administrators and interested parents.
Karen Capo is a passionate early childhood educator who has been involved in preschool, kindergarten and first grade classrooms for 30 years. In addition to teaching toddlers to fifth graders, she has served as a preschool curriculum director, elementary science laboratory specialist, and graduate instructor through the University of Houston system and at Rice University. Karen brings more than 20 years of experience with School Literacy and Culture to her current position as director of the project. During her tenure, Karen has been named Teacher of the Year by her peers at Shlenker School and Teacher Educator of the Year by the Houston Area Association for the Education of Young Children (HAAEYC). Karen and her colleagues have also been recognized by the National Association for Early Childhood Teacher Education (NAECTE) for an award-winning research article. Karen enjoys traveling with her husband, Steve, and their sons - Rice Owls Jonathan (class of '16) and Christian (class of '18).
