Fall IB: Administrators, Category 2

Category 2 workshops are designed to provide a forum for experienced IB educators, focusing on programme delivery. Emphasis is placed on assessment, teaching and learning methodologies, and exploring best practices in the classroom.

The workshop should enable participants to:

+ Develop a deep understanding of the IB organization: its history, mission statement, learner profile, IB continuum, the international dimension and university recognition
+ Use elements of the IB programme standards and practices as a guide for decisions regarding implementation of the programme
+ Consider the impact of the centrality of the IB learner profile
+ Promote the importance of academic honesty
+ Evaluate the different ways to implement the DP in your school
+ Consider the selection and retention of suitable staff
+ Consider an overview of authorization process: timeline, application forms (candidacy & authorization), consultation, verification visit, professional development requirements
+ Develop an effective working relationship with the DP coordinator to plan the school’s application for authorization, budget, timeline, main schedule
+ Predict initial and ongoing budget and resource needs
+ Plan for student recruitment and retention; working with the community, parents, school boards/ boards of directors / governing bodies

Instructor: Daniel Wartick

Dr. Daniel Wartick is the currently principal at North Kansas City High School. North Kansas City High School has an IB Diploma Program, and in the fall of 2014 was authorized to begin the IBCC. Dr. Wartick’s work with IB has been in various capacities.  He most recently served on Heads Council for International Baccalaureate from January 2010 through December 2014. During that time he served on the Academic Dishonesty Committee and IBO Grant Committee. Dr. Wartick also served on the IB North American Council from January 2007 through July 2009. Currently, Dr. Wartick is involved in diploma program authorization visits and is a consultant for schools in the authorization process. In addition, Dr. Wartick facilitates workshops for Heads of Schools in the Americas.

Dr. Wartick holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Education and Urban Leadership from the University of Missouri at Kansas City.
