Category 2 workshops are designed to provide a forum for experienced IB educators, focusing on programme delivery. Emphasis is placed on assessment, teaching and learning methodologies, and exploring best practices in the classroom.
Participants are expected to have a good understanding of the DP Programme, as well as practical experience in assessment so that they can share good practices.
+ make connections between programme frameworks and classroom practice
+ enhance their understanding of assessment in the DP
+ discuss and analyze standards and practices appropriate to their role
+ engage in discussion and activities aimed at sharing pedagogical techniques.
The overall purpose of the workshop is to provide a forum for experiences IB educators to focus on ways to improve programme delivery, assessment, and teaching and learning. The workshop will be guided by the workshop objectives (listed below). Additional components of the workshop will be driven by burning questions that participants would like answered by the end of the workshop.
Kari Christensen is currenly a MYP and DP coordinator at Robbinsdale Cooper High School in New Hope, Minnesota. Cooper is a school-wide IB MYP in grades 9 and 10 with a partner middle school, and offers both courses and full-diploma in 11th and 12th grade. Kari has been the MYP coordinator since 2001 and the DP since 2014, with previous years spent as a co-coordinator on many levels. Kari was trained to be an IB educator in 2008. Since then she has lead numerous workshops, both face-to-face and online – Launching the MYP and category 1, 2, and 3 for both heads of schools/coordinators and teachers (Language Acquisition, Global Contexts, Learner Profile, The Power of Language to Transform School Culture - Developing a Language Policy; Managing Assessment, Backward Mapping – from DP to MYP; Action in the MYP, Inquiry in the MYP, and Understanding the Coordinator’s Role). She also does field repping for the IB.
In addition to leading workshops, Kari is a site visitor for verification and evaluation visits both in the US and Canada and has been a consultant for many MYP and DP candidate schools. She is involved in the Building Quality Curriculum for the IB, where she is a senior reviewer for Physical and Health Education, as well as a school reviewer. She is a DP examiner for French ab initio SL IA (as well as team leader for said subject) and for French B SL reuve 1. She leads DP coordination workshops, both categories 1 and 2. When not working for her school or IB, she teaches at Bethel University in St. Paul in their adult studies/graduate program.

All Category 2 and 3 participants are now required to bring their own Subject Guides for the Rice IB DP Workshops. Subject Guides will still be provided for all Category 1 participants.
We will be working from a Wikispaces platform (https://cat2dpcoordinationrice2017.wikispaces.com/ ). Please bring a laptop or other device with you so that you can access all of the documents that we’ll be using throughout the three-day workshop. Participants will be invited to the Wikispace; the invitation will come from Wikispaces so it may be necessary to check your spam folder. Resources will continually be added to the site up until the start date of the workshop.
