Fall IB: Geography, Category 1 & 2

Category 1 workshops are designed to provide training and assistance for schools that have decided to apply for IB authorization. They are equally relevant for educators who are new to a school with an existing IB programme and those interested in joining an IB World School.

Category 2 workshops are designed to provide a forum for experienced IB educators, focusing on programme delivery. Emphasis is placed on assessment, teaching and learning methodologies, and exploring best practices in the classroom.
 

The workshop is designed address the issues related to the structuring, assessing and resourcing of the new 2019 IB DP Geography syllabus. Sessions will be facilitated to share best practice, ideas and resources. The structure of the new syllabus will be explored in-depth along with how you will be able to support your students in reaching their full potential for both internal and external assessment components. The issue of how to resource the new course will focus upon using both printed and online resources.

Topics will include the following:

+ Approaches to Teaching and Learning
+ Structure of the new Geography course
+ Conceptual and contextual approach to the new Geography course
+ External Assessment: criteria and mark bands
+ Internal Assessment: fieldwork opportunities in the local area and further afield
+ Resourcing IB DP Geography

Instructor: Bernadette Keane

Bernadette Keane teaches IB DP Geography and Environmental Systems and Societies at The British Schools of Montevideo, Uruguay. She is actively involved in both the external and internal examination processes for DP Geography and supports the IB as a Senior Moderator for IA and as a Senior Examiner for Paper 2, she is also a Team Leader for both of these components in Spanish and English. Mrs. Keane has led workshops for the IB and has participated in numerous IB Workshops in the Americas and online. She holds a BA in European Studies from North London University and an MSc in Environmental Policy and Management from Wye College at Imperial, University of London.
