Category 2 workshops are designed to provide a forum for experienced IB educators, focusing on programme delivery. Emphasis is placed on assessment, teaching and learning methodologies, and exploring best practices in the classroom.
This workshop will explore Language and Literature Course, focusing on the four parts, the texts and text types, and the assessments (both internal and external).
Topics will include the following:
Part 1: Language in a cultural context—Written Tasks, FOA’s
Part 2: Language and Mass Communications—Written Tasks, FOA’s
Part 3: Literature—Texts and Contexts—Written Tasks, Paper 2
Part 4: Literature—Critical Study—Written Tasks, IOC
John Syvitski is the Principal Examiner for Paper 2 of the Language and Literature Course. He is also the Senior Team Leader for English Extended Essays. In addition to being a workshop leader in a number of areas (Literature, Language and Literature, Evaluating Your Diploma Program, and Approaches to Teaching and Learning), he is also a Reader of Course Outlines for new schools entering the IB program.
Mr. Syvitski taught IB English at Miles Macdonell Collegiate in Winnipeg, Canada where he was also the English Department Head and IB Coordinator. He holds a BA from Lakehead University, a B.Ed and Masters in Education from the University of Manitoba.
