The nine-hour FP&A Fundamentals course is designed for a range of people including those considering switching to a career in FP&A, those wanting to learn more about FP&A in general as well as those in FP&A who want to learn functional best practices.
The FP&A Fundamentals class includes cases focusing on: calculating market share and growth, learning basic and intermediate excel functions, building best, base and worst case scenario models, calculating the Lifetime Value of a Customer, analyzing price-volume-mix (introductory), determining NPV, payback, profitability index, breakeven and IRR for an investment, deseasonalizing sales and forecasting and Interpreting P&L statements.
Mike Carpenter joined Sparx Hockey as the vice president of finance and administration in 2017. He is a versatile corporate finance senior leader with broad experience that includes financial planning and analysis, manufacturing finance, client finance and business partnering. He has a strong focus on team stewardship and processes improvements.
Mr. Carpenter has experience in publicly traded, family owned and private equity backed companies ranging from $5M/year to Fortune 300. Prior to Sparx Hockey, Mr. Carpenter held various finance and business development roles for Cimpress, Lake Region Medical, PAREXEL International, EMD Millipore, the Tampa Bay Rays and Yum! Brands.
Mr. Carpenter graduated with a bachelor's in civil and environmental engineering from Cornell University in 1997 and received his MBA from the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business in 2003. In 2015, he obtained the FP&A professional certification and began teaching the FP&A course for Rice University's Glasscock School of Continuing Studies as well as abroad with Leoron.
