This workshop’s primary focus will be on 8th grade Science readiness standards aimed at improving STAAR academic rigor but will also include activities from the supporting standards found in 6th grade and 7th grade.
The majority of the three days will be hands–on and action packed! You will be up and out of your seat using Action Based Learning (Safety relay), it will be thrilling (Barbie Bungee Jumping), and out of this world (Just a Phase make and take activity). Whether you are a first year teacher looking for help developing new curriculum or a seasoned veteran needing to change things up a bit this multifaceted workshop will have something for everyone: technology, videos snippets, hands-on activities, action based learning and foldables. Topics will include: Process Skills, Physical Science, Earth Science, and Life Science. Be prepared for a fast paced energetic learning environment that will wet your appetite for more (Hershey Bar Density). Bring a mobile device and a flash drive!
Sheila Guillory graduated from Texas A&M University with a BS in Biology and a minor in Education. Ms. Guillory is a passionate science teacher with 24 years of teaching experience in grades 5th-8th Science. She is currently a teacher, an instructional coach, and a science department leader for 8th grade science in Jasper ISD. Ms. Guillory enjoys using innovative strategies to promoting active learning through hands-on activities. Additionally, she is passionate about science and is committed to maintaining up-to-date knowledge in the field and on the latest curriculum, and resources available for academic success of her students.
