MSI Science: Teaching Middle School 7th and 8th Science TEKS with an Inquiry Approach

This 3-day course will focus on how to teach the middle school 7th and 8th science TEKS with an inquiry approach.

Come learn how to make your classroom student-centered by embedding high interest hands-on activities into your current scope and sequence. Topics that will be addressed are physics, chemistry, planet earth, life science and formative assessment.

Instructor: Laurie Fowlkes

Laurie Fowlkes has been working in education for over 20 years. For the past 10 years, she served as a secondary science curriculum specialist in Cypress Fairbanks ISD. This position had many different responsibilities, including providing district-wide staff development to over 300 teachers, writing curriculum, and mentoring new or struggling teachers. She has created staff development workshops with a blended online and classroom environment. Ms. Fowlkes is also employed by Connections Education as an adjunct teacher where she has taught education technology, health and algebra online. Her other work experience includes preparing and presenting face to face staff developments to science teachers at various small school districts in the area focusing on pedagogy and science content. Most recently she had the honor of being part of a state level educational science committee that met solely to review, edit and select questions for the 8th grade science STAAR test.
