Rice University scholars of medieval history, literature, art and music join forces with Houston Museum of Natural Science (HMNS) experts to bring the world of medieval knights to life. This course is offered in conjunction with “Knights in Shining Armor,” a comprehensive exhibit of European armor and arms from the Museo Stibbert (Florence, Italy), hosted by HMNS.
Knights are among the most glorified figures in history. Revered for their courage, prowess on the battlefield and adherence to chivalric codes of love, duty and honor, they have been romanticized for more than a thousand years. Their lore and legacy endure even today. The world of medieval knights comes to life in this course offered in conjunction with “Knights in Shining Armor,” a comprehensive exhibit of European armor and arms from the Museo Stibbert in Florence, Italy, hosted by the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Drawing on recent research, scholars from Rice University and the Houston Museum of Natural Science explore the myths and realities of knighthood and daily life in Europe during the Middle Ages. This course includes a private tour of “Knights in Shining Armor.
