Ernest L. Smith, CTP, FP&A, M.B.A.

Ernest L. Smith is senior vice president North Texas Regional Sales Manager at BBVA Compass. Smith is responsible for a staff of 10 TM professionals, providing TM product Sales and Support to clients in the North Texas region. Before joining BBVA Compass, Smith spent 16 years at JPMorgan Chase, including six years as a Commercial Banker and three years as a Private Client Advisor. Prior to Chase, he spent three years at South Main Bank as Credit Officer and Compliance Officer. Smith has 23 years of banking experience and 15 years of Treasury Management experience. Smith is an instructor of the CTP program at Rice University’s Glasscock School of Continuing Studies. He received his B.S.B.A. in Finance from the University of Arizona and his M.B.A. from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
 

Karen N. Sasser, CTP

Karen Sasser is a native Texan from the Houston area. She attended Texas A&M University and studied Civil Engineering. She has been in banking for more years than she’ll admit, the last 19 at Amegy Bank of Texas, where she serves as a Senior Vice President. Sasser is the Product Management Manager for the Corporate Treasury Management division of Zions Bancorporation with primary responsibility for the delivery of commercial financial services for its eight affiliate banks. She speaks at state and local treasury management conferences and is an instructor for AFP's CTP certification program offered Rice University's Glasscock School of Continuing Studies.

 

Madeline Sprague, CTP

Madeline Sprague is a Texas regional trade specialist for HSBC Bank USA, based in Houston, and works closely with local and multinational companies with trade needs, such as trade risk management, letters of credit, bank guarantees, export-import related working capital, receivables finance and supply chain solutions. She has more than 32 years of trade and international experience across all industry sectors. Prior to joining HSBC, she handled global sales/business development in Texas for JPMorgan, Wells Fargo HSBC Trade Bank and Bank One and also managed international trade operations for both CoreStates’ and Bankers Trust’s Houston branches. 

Sprague is a Certified Treasury Professional and has a bachelor’s degree in languages and linguistics from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She has conducted many seminars on International and Standby Letters of Credit, Trade Finance, International Treasury Management, and Regulatory Compliance on both regional and national levels, for the bank’s clients and for various credit and treasury management professional organizations. She is a member of the Association of Financial Professionals, an instructor for AFP’s CTP certification program at Rice University's Glasscock School of Continuing Studies, and also teaches trade related classed for the University of Houston and Houston Community College. Originally from Buffalo, NY, she relocated to Texas, married a cattle rancher, and in her words, is completely “defrosted." In her spare time, Madeline makes balloon animals and evil chocolate desserts for fun and for stress management.
 

Mike Sultanik, CPA, CTP

As a Senior Vice President in the Corporate Banking group of Bank of Texas in Houston, Mike Sultanik is responsible for new business development and middle market portfolio management in the Greater Houston area. A 35-year financial industry veteran, Sultanik previously spent 15 years at Wells Fargo Bank, most recently serving as Vice President and Senior Relationship Manager in Commercial Banking. In that position, he was responsible for managing non-energy and
non-real estate developers with annual sales in excess of $30 million. Prior to Wells Fargo, Sultanik was Director of Treasury Operations at National Convenience Stores Inc. and Senior Financial Analyst at Tenneco Inc. in Houston. 

Actively involved in the community, Sultanik is a Board Member of Houston’s Society for the Performing Arts, a member of the Economic Development Committee for the Greater Houston Partnership and was past Chairman and President of the Houston Treasury Management Association. Sultanik is also an instructor for the CTP certification program at Rice University’s Glasscock School of Continuing Studies and formerly served as Adjunct Professor at the University of Houston Clear Lake’s Finance Department. Sultanik earned his B.B.A and M.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin, is a Certified Public Accountant, and a Certified Treasury Professional.

 

Raymond Vines, CPA, CTP

Raymond Vines is the Director of Treasury for Dean Foods in Dallas, Texas where he is responsible for treasury management, banking relationship management and process improvement. He previously spent 20 years at RadioShack as Director of Treasury Operations. Ray is an active participant in enhancing the role of treasury management as an industry and a career through his participation on industry roundtables and his leadership of the Dallas AFP, including his current role as president of the organization. Ray is co-chairing the award-winning TEXPO conference when it returns to Dallas in 2018. Ray holds a BBA in Finance and MS in Accounting from University of North Texas and lives in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
