Fall IB Workshops

The Fall IB workshops at Rice are designed for new and experienced IB teachers at the PYP, MYP, DP and CP levels who are interested in learning about the IB program and strategies and techniques for effectively teaching IB curriculum.

The Fall IB workshops at Rice are designed for new and experienced IB teachers at the PYP, MYP, DP and the CP levels who are interested in learning about the IB program and strategies and techniques for effectively teaching IB curriculum.

Workshops are led by experienced IB workshop leaders who have a strong background in teaching and an interest in developing the IB teacher community through rigorous professional development.

Workshops will be Sunday to Tuesday on the Rice University campus. Classes on the first two days will be held from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and classes on the last day will be held from 9 a.m.-noon.

Prior to registering, please review the IB Workshops and Resources catalog to determine which category best meets your needs. Additionally, certain information provided during registration will be sent to the IB Organization.

IMPORTANT: Please do not book travel until enrollment is confirmed.

Continuing Education Credits: Participants will receive up to 15 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits or 1.5 Continuing Education Units (CEU). Attendance is taken each morning and afternoon. The hours on your certificate will reflect your actual hours of attendance. Participants are responsible for signing the attendance sheet each day. Note: The Rice University IB Workshops are not approved by TAGT for GT hours, but some districts will allow a limited number of hours to be applied for update hours. Please contact your district for specifics.

Acknowledgment of Enrollment: Once you register for a course through our online registration system, you will be enrolled in the course. An enrollment acknowledgement will immediately be sent to the email address on your account showing payment confirmation or including instructions for submitting payment via check. In some cases, a course may be full, and you will have the option of getting on a waiting list. A waiting list is automatically created for a course once it has filled to capacity. If a spot should become available in that filled course, and you are next on the waiting list, you will receive an email to the email address on file with instructions for completing registration for that specific course. Early registration: $840 (until July 7)
Standard registration: $890 (July 7-September 21)
Late registration: $940 (after September 21)

Tuition includes breakfast each day and lunch on the first and second day.


Payments are accepted by credit card or purchase order. Registrations via credit card are confirmed immediately upon processing. Registrations made via PO are not considered confirmed until CCR receives the actual payment (check). If registering using a PO, payment (check) is due within 30 days of registration. Failure to submit timely payment may result in the cancellation of your registration.

TEA Reimbursement

Texas IB teachers are eligible for tuition reimbursement by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Teachers must attend the entire workshop in order to earn a certificate and be eligible for TEA reimbursement. TEA has asked that you please join the TEA AP/IB incentive listserv https://public.govdelivery.com/accounts/TXTEA/subscriber/new to be notified once guidelines have been determined.

A block of rooms has been reserved for participants at the hotel listed below. Please contact the hotel directly for reservations and reserve your room as soon as possible, as the special Workshop rate cannot be guaranteed after the reserved block of rooms has been filled.

Please arrive in Houston the day before your session begins and schedule your hotel reservations accordingly. Check-in occurs at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 7, and the program ends at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 9. If you choose to return home on Tuesday evening, we suggest you select a flight leaving no earlier than 2:30 p.m.

Please note that hours will be deducted from your certificate if you leave before the workshop ends.

We have contracted a shuttle to provide round-trip transportation service from the Houston Marriot Medical Center to the Rice campus. If you are registered at other hotels, please check with their concierge about transportation to Rice. While they may be close enough to Rice, we will not be able to service all hotels in the area. Be sure to book your room early.

Category 2 participants are required to bring their own subject guide to the workshops. A subject guide will be provided in hard copy for Category 1 participants. In combined Category 1 and 2 workshops, subject guides will be provided to all participants. Coordinators, please bring a copy of the "Handbook of Procedures." A few copies will be available to those that are unable to get one before the start of the workshops. These materials may be brought either as electronic files downloaded to laptops or as hard copies.
