See your enrollment acknowledgment for the location of your class or call 713-348-4803 if you have not received your enrollment acknowledgment by the day your class begins. If you are unfamiliar with the Rice campus, plan to arrive early enough on the first day of class to be able to find the parking lots and your building.
For participants whose class meets on the main Rice campus
Where to Park: Continuing Studies provides free parking for its participants in West Lot 4 or 5. Entrance #8 at the intersection of University Boulevard and Stockton Drive provides the easiest access to West Lot 4 and 5. Entrances to the lots are designated on the campus map.
The greater loop bus route now services our building for convenient transportation.
Use Your Parking Card and Hangtag: Along with your enrollment acknowledgment, you received a parking card and hangtag. When you arrive for each class meeting, you will gain access to West Lot 4 by inserting the parking card into the gate receptacle, magnetic strip down, arrow pointing towards the receptacle. You must push the 'Help' button to gain access to West Lot 5. Please hang the hangtag from your rearview mirror with the printed side facing outward. You may only use the parking card and hangtag to park on campus during your class time. (To maintain the integrity of the parking card, do not bend, fold, or expose the card to sun or water.) Note: If your class takes place during the day of an athletic event, you will not have to pay the fee to enter West Lot 4, as your parking card and hangtag are still valid.
Rice Shuttle Buses on Weekdays: Inner Loop shuttle buses operate Monday through Friday, 6 a.m.-10:45 p.m. and leave from West Lot 4 every 5-8 minutes during the school year. If you are unfamiliar with the campus, please tell the bus driver the name of the building in which your class meets so he or she may assist you. Summer schedule is 6 a.m.-7 p.m.
Greater Loop shuttle buses operate Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. and leave from the entrance of the Anderson-Clarke Center every 10-15 minutes. Note: Runs only during the school year.
You can see where the shuttle buses are in real-time on the Shuttle Tracker System.
Weekends and Holidays: The Rice shuttle buses do not run on weekends or holidays. If your class meets on a weekend or holiday and you do not wish to walk from West Lot 4 or 5, you may choose to park in a paid visitor lot that may be closer to your building (see below).
Parking Validations: Some participants in classes that meet on the main Rice campus may be given parking validations instead of parking cards and hang tags. These validations may be used in the paid visitor lots. You will be sent separate instructions.
Paid Visitor Lots – Credit Card Required: If you choose to park closer to interior campus buildings, several paid visitor lots are available. The Founders Court Lot and Lovett Saddle Lot accessed by Entrances 1 or 2, the North Lot and the Central Campus Garage near Entrance 20, and the BRC Garage are available for a charge $1.00 per 15 minutes, with a maximum cost of $11.00 per day. Credit cards are the only acceptable form of payment for these lots (American Express, VISA, MasterCard, Discover; debit cards are not accepted).
For participants using a parking validation for a credit card lot
Where to Park: Your Enrollment Acknowledgment will include specific instructions about which lots will be available for your use.
Parking Validations: Although you must use a credit card to enter (American Express, VISA, MasterCard, Discover; debit cards are not accepted), Continuing Studies will provide you with a parking validation at each class meeting that will allow you to park for free. When exiting, FIRST insert the parking validation and THEN insert the same credit card that was used to enter the parking lot. The machine will keep the parking validation and return the credit card uncharged. If the validation is not inserted before the credit card when attempting to exit, the credit card will be charged.
For participants in Language programs
Intensive English Program students must purchase a parking permit. Information on how to obtain the permit will be provided on the first day of class. Students in Foreign Language and ESL Communication Skills programs will receive parking cards and hang tags on the first day of class. Parking for all students is free on the first day of each session and on placement testing days. Call 713-348-4019 for questions about the Language program.
For participants whose class meets only off campus
You will not be sent a parking card or a hangtag. You will be sent separate instructions.
