Rice University has partnered with IFMA to offer the first and only online university course that helps you prepare for the Certified Facility Manager exam.  IFMA is the world's largest and most widely recognized international association for facility management professionals, supporting 24,000 members in more than 100 countries. This live, instructor-led course provides an overview of the facility management body of knowledge to apply the knowledge and skills gained through a combination of facility management experience and education. Jerry DiCola , CFM, SFP, FMP, LEED Green Associate, is the Director, Facilities Operations for Horizon Pharma, Inc., a specialty biopharmaceutical company focused on improving patients’ lives by identifying, developing, acquiring and commercializing differentiated products that address unmet medical needs. He has direct responsibilities for the oversight of 165,000 leased space in Lake Forest and consultative support to Horizon Pharma’s three international offices. He is an IFMA certified instructor and has been facilitating IFMA course at Northern Illinois University since 2008. Most recently, he was the president for the Chicago Chapter of IFMA.

John T. Pivik, MS, CFM, PE, SFP, LEED Green Associate,is the president of JTP Consulting, Ltd and provides consulting services in Strategic Planning, Facility Assessment and Sustainability, FM Staffing and Organizational Change Management. He also serves as an educator in FM for George Mason University, The Catholic University of America, BOMI, RICS and is a certified instructor for IFMA in the FMP, SFP and CFM Exam Review programs. John earned a Bachelors in Architectural Engineering from Penn State University and earned a Master of Science degree in Management for Organizational Effectiveness from Marymount University. He worked in the Corporate Real Estate Department of the World Bank for twenty years, serving as Manager for Facilities Operations and Maintenance achieving industry recognition for improvements in the practices of Move Management, Construction Partnering, Help Desk Effectiveness, Operating Cost Management, Client Satisfaction Survey/Customer Service and a continuous reduction in energy consumption.

Students in online format courses must have the following:

  • Headset or earbuds with a microphone attached to your computer
  • High-speed Internet connection (Ethernet preferable)
  • Google Chrome or FireFox (versions 49+) installed on your computer*

Blackboard Ultra can be accessed on a mobile device. The Blackboard app is available on iOS, Android, and Windows mobile devices. Join the webinar directly from your session link in Canvas — the app will open automatically. Please be sure to use your earbuds or headphones, as your built-in speakers may cause echoes during the recorded session.
