Learn to make decisions with confidence. Every decision has numerous factors. You may have data on some, but not on others, and this course helps you navigate through an effective decision-making process. Offered in collaboration with Rice’s George R. Brown School of Engineering, this two-day course, which offers participants the opportunity to attend in person or online, is applicable to the Certificate of Completion in Advanced Data Analytics.
Learn the simple science of Excel-based decision analytics to use relevant concepts from statistics to develop quantitative models that provide great data. Discover the decision analytics that even allows you to predict and plan potential scenarios before data is available!
Also, explore important questions such as expected monetary value for valuation. Additionally, the decision tree tool, which is the heart of this course, allows you to convert different projects/decisions/options to one financial metric, making it easy to compare projects and decisions.

Andrew Schaefer, Ph.D., is the Noah Harding Chair and a professor of computational and applied mathematics at Rice University. His research interests are stochastic optimization and its applications. He received his Ph.D. in industrial and systems engineering from Georgia Tech. He has previously taught at Georgia Tech, the University of Pittsburgh and London Business School.
Eylem Tekin, Ph.D., is a lecturer in industrial engineering at Rice University. Her research interests are in supply chain management. She received her Ph.D. in industrial engineering and management science from Northwestern University. She has taught at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Texas A&M and the University of Houston.
Ilya V. Hicks, Ph.D., is a professor of computational and applied mathematics (CAAM) at Rice University. His expertise areas are in optimization with applications in network design, social networks, and cancer treatment. He received his Ph.D. in CAAM from Rice University. He has previously taught at University of Houston and Texas A&M University.
