The course is designed to provide participants with activities to help them better prepare their students for the challenges of upper-level AP courses. Although many activities apply to both the AP Literature and the AP Language courses, the differences will also be examined.
Participants will examine Pre-AP strategies that support the AP English Language and Composition and AP Literature and Composition courses. Those strategies include closing reading, annotation, rhetorical analysis, argumentation, and various writing tasks including analytical writing and synthesis writing. A wide range of cross discipline reading samples will be explored to develop a deeper understanding of content and promote better test performance. Participants will leave with activities, lessons on prose and poetry, graphic organizers, an examination of digital classroom possibilities, and a renewed enthusiasm for integrating all of it into their own curriculum.
