Become a Texas Teacher
The minor in teaching provides Rice undergraduate students the opportunity to gain a deep understanding of the education profession, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to make a meaningful impact in the classroom or on policy. Students will engage in hands-on experiences, including classroom observations and internships, that foster experiential learning and direct application of academic theory. Collaborative projects with local school districts will encourage teamwork and practical problem-solving, while research components will allow students to contribute to education policy discussions.

Learning Component Course
The Minor in Teaching comprises six upper-level courses totaling 21 credit hours.

Note: Students enrolled in EDUC 467: Practicum for Pre-Service Teachers (6-credit hours) complete 14 weeks of full-day clinical teaching (approximately 490 hours if five days per week, seven hours per day) under the supervision of a qualified cooperating teacher with a partnering school in the Houston area. This residency may be compensated and includes a complete support system consisting of the student’s education department advisor, field supervisor and mentor teacher at the host school. After graduating, students may apply for a teaching credential issued by Texas Education Agency. |
