Creative Writing Camp offers a supportive learning environment that inspires incoming kindergarten to high school students to craft stories, poetry, essays and plays, as well as simply writing for pleasure. Through these workshops even the most hesitant students discover the joy of writing, the intrigue of language and the confidence of authorship. Over the course of two weeks, campers receive 40 hours of classroom instruction provided by highly qualified teachers and writers. Camp concludes with a final reading or performance and each participant takes home a personal portfolio. Creative Writing Camp is a 28-year collaborative effort between Writers in the Schools and Rice University’s School Literacy and Culture program for teachers.
