Heather Loan
BIOGRAPHY

Heather graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Philosophy. She has been an early childhood educator for more than 15 years. She recently joined the School Literacy & Culture team as the Assistant Director of Early Literacy Programs where she overseas and coordinates SLC’s daylong programs and teacher workshops. Heather was a resident teacher in School Literacy & Culture’s Classroom Storytelling project in 2016 and a graduate of the third cohort of SLC’s Early Literacy Leadership Academy (ELLA) in 2019. She is a member of School Literacy and Culture’s Advanced Leadership Seminar. She is a mentor teacher for residents enrolled in SLC’s Developing Oral Language and ELLA programs and co-facilitates seminars for SLC’s Early Literacy Leadership Academy. She previously taught at Briarmeadow Charter School, HISD where she began an OWL Replication Lab which served Pre-K thru 5th grade students. Prior to starting the Lab at Briarmeadow, she was a K/1 looping classroom teacher. While at Briarmeadow, Heather was nominated Beginning Teacher of the Year in 2013 and ESL Teacher of the Year in 2017. Prior to working there, she taught Pre-K at St. Martin’s Episcopal School. Heather enjoys traveling and spending time with her two teenage children.
